Aloha Friday!!

It's that time of the week again!! Hooray!! After the week I've had I'm soooo ready for a weekend!
Finally...It's Friday!
And what better way to start it off with than an island themed Aloha Friday!
Want to join in this meme that requires little effort? It's easy...
Write a simple Aloha Friday blog post asking a simple, lengthy- response -NOT- needed type question! Then...
Just head over to An Island Life, sign Mr. Linky and have fun answering other participants Aloha Friday questions!
Each time I join in I meet at least one new mama bloggy friend!
So...since I recently became a mom of a TEENAGER....I've got a question that I'm trying to come up with an answer to myself:
Do you let your children use MySpace (or Facebook, etc.)? If so, at what age did you first allow it? If your kids are too young for that...at what age to you plan to allow it?

Hmm that is a good question. My kids are under 5 right now. If I had my way .. my kids wouldn't get near the internet..but..that is not very realistic is it lol soo I guess I'll just play it by ear and monitor everything..Facebook perhaps..but no MySpace. lol

My 17 year old has a MySpace page, though he was banned from using it when he had one when he was 14 and we found things on it we disapproved of. He snuck a new one in and we now monitor it again. I hate them... they scare me.
I am a former jr. high school teacher and I will tell you that these pages cause so many problems. The problem is if you don't have one then you miss out on the "chatter" with your friends. I would have to say 7th grade but with complete oversight of it.

Come visit my first Aloha Friday HERE!

My son is way too young to worry about this now, but I think I'd be open to him having a myspace or facebook page at whatever age he asked for one, as long as I had his password and access to everything he was doing. No sneaky, yucky stuff.

I don't know if they had those when my two were teenagers, which isn't too long ago. My oldest DD is 26 and she has a MySpace. I've never been on it so I have no clue what it contains! *L*

So far my step kids are not allowed to have them. Darling SS is to young. And Dear SD is a bit of a mouthy handfull so no access yet.

Kids are too young and I had not thought about it yet. It is going to be tough when they reach that computer age.

No, my stepdaughter is 13. I think she could probably be on Facebook now, but for some reason I don't like myspace for her yet. Don't think her mom will let her do either for a while! My kids are way to young for me to worry about it yet!

my children were all 16 years old before I let them use myspace

My son is only one right now....so I would say when he was about 13 or so it would be okay, if it is still around then.

My son is only two so I clearly haven't given it much thought. And I think it largely depends on the kid, but I'd be tempted to say, "Not until high school" and then go based off that kid, what feels appropriate and it wouldn't come without a long lecture. :P

My kids are far too young now. Of course I worry about what else will be around when they are older and want to try these items. As someone who taught in a middle school I constantly heard about the kids on them. It was frightening to see what some of my students had put online and none of the parents likely had a clue. Very scary!

My kids are still too young but I will be honest.....It scares me just thinking about MySpace and Facebook especially when it comes to my kids using them.

I have no clue how we will face this battle.

Hi.
Allow your kids on with the understanding that you have to be one of their friends. This way you can monitor everything going on.

my son is 14 months, so although he loves to bang on the keyboard, he's a long way off from myspace and facebook! i'm sure by the time he's older, there will be something new out there that his parents aren't already using. and we'll have to talk to him about being careful about what he posts on these sites.

Believe me when I say that I shudder while trying to deal w/ this. My kids are nearly 12 & 7 (in a month) but so far neither has one. I am more willing to do facebook than myspace but either isn't happening until high school & luckily our jr high is in our elementary! Thank heavens for small schools that are pre-k to 8th grade.

I never let them use MySpace but I did let them use Facebook once they got into high school.

My son had a myspace page in 9th grade and then the last couple years has used facebook instead. I like facebook bc I made him add me as his friend and then alot of his friends added me to. Easy way to keep an eye out!

I would say 14 or 15 however I would monitor very closely! My friend has spyware on her computer and she watches what sites her kids go to.

They're too young right now but maybe when they're in high school. However, I'll be monitoring that really closely!

I know she wants to be on facebook, but she is too young. I would say probably 15 or 16 might be a better age.
