Cheerios Circle of Helping Hearts...Win A Freshwater Pearl Bracelet!

Heart health isn't something most women...including me, think about on a regular basis. As I've mentioned...last month, my uncle, who was almost like a father to me...unexpectedly passed away of a heart attack at the age of 55. He was 3 months away from his retirement, and also raising his two children alone since my aunt died of cancer four years ago. With no known history of heart trouble, not being a smoker...and not being overweight...he never had any idea that this could happen.

It's been quite a wake up call for my family, and it's made me think a lot about how I live my life and what I feed my 3 children and myself. Because heart health is NOT just a men's concern.

Heart disease strikes women too, and it needs to be addressed and now! So many people are not aware of how they can help themselves and their loved ones to protect against heart disease. But luckily....there are companies out there who care and want to help.

Cheerios Circle of Helping Hearts wants to spread the word about heart health, and one of its main risk factors, which is high cholesterol...Do you know your cholesterol number? I made an appointment for a complete physical recently because heart disease affected my life...AND because I realize that I need to know my cholesterol number...and I don't...YET that is:) High cholesterol is one of the major controllable factors for coronary heart disease, which is the number one cause of death for women. A recent study conducted by Harris Interactive for Cheerios found that more than one-third of adults (37 percent) have not had their cholesterol checked within the past year.*
What reasons would women have for NOT getting their cholesterol checked?? Uhhh... I can tell you a hundred. But luckily, I'm able to make that doctor's appointment and get it checked when I finally got around to it!!! But do you know how many women are without health insurance? It's horrific! And No insurance likely means NO cholesterol screenings which means a much higher risk for heart disease! Yikes!
Wondering how you can help? Now through January 31, 2010, for every code entered at www.cheerioshelpinghearts.com, Cheerios will donate $1, up to $200,000, to raise awareness for heart disease and provide free cholesterol screenings for women in need, through its partnership with WomenHeart. Codes will be featured inside specially marked boxes of Cheerios cereal. And you know us mamas always have Cheerios on hand for our little tots!

I am trying to get at least 30 minutes of exercise 5 to 6 days a week and am going to have my cholesterol checked since my Mom and other family members have high cholesterol.

I try to walk as often as possible, got my husband involved, he is a sweetie and helps to inspire us to stay on track, to be healthy....the pretty pearl bracelet would be an extra gentle reminder to take care of ourselves!

First of all, I try not to take to it any sort of offensive, jealous, envious, wicked remarks. I sport a positive attitude as you would sport a luxurious outfit. Second, I eat healthy. My diet is made up of fresh fruit, vegetables, fish and dairy.

My Dad has heart disease and I am at risk so I always make sure I do some sort of exercise, even walking for 30 min. a day. I try to eat heart healthy foods and cheerios is a staple in my home with little ones too! Thanks for hosting such a great giveaway and bringing awareness to us all.

I have morphed our eating habits over the past couple years. I'm not sure the family even realizes what I've done. I try to keep fresh fruits on hand. I make fresh salsa and pico de gallo - a lot. I keep my freezer full of already cooked goodness like roasts and enchiladas. We can skip the drive through because an even more tempting quick food is waiting at home. And we know what's in it!

Very little red meat, eat balanced meals and tons of heavy yard work to keep the ol' ticker happy. Cherrios is my favorite cereal too.

I drink apple cider vinegar in my water everyday. I also have a total gym I work out on 30 minutes 5 x week. I enjoy eating Cheerios for the taste and also the heart health benefits.

High Cholesterol runs in our family, even though no one is overweight. I take Omega oil capsules and add ground flaxseed to high fiber cereal. I try to limit fatty foods and try to get exercise in as often as possible.

Nearly every morning, I eat a bowl of warm oatmeal. I actually do enjoy a bowl of Cheerios occasionally too! I try to eat a balanced diet. I usually do at least 30-45 minutes of exercise a day.
